Recently I was tasked with coming up with a Nintendo themed party for the N247 Office. I’ll be honest, I’m not a great party planner by any means, but this was one extremely fun project and I can’t wait for the big day!
The first thing you want to do before planning any party is to consider the demographic of people that will be attending. You want to know an approximate head count, age group, and what the general interests of those attending are. In our case, it was a small group (less than 20 people, aged 26-35). Once you have this info, you can start planning the rest of the festivity.
Food is an important part of any party, and in many cases can make or break a party! Well maybe not that serious, but still a very important aspect of any party. For our party we wanted to include foods that weren’t too greasy. Since we were going to have multiple gaming stations set up, we didn’t want foods that would leave the controllers a greasy mess. Foods that we avoided were pizza, potato chips, and chocolates. I know what you might be thinking, “those are the BEST party foods”. While I would agree that pizza and potato chips are a great choice for a party, they were just too greasy to include in this project.
The foods that we decided to go with include; cheese and crackers, pretzels, Cracker Jack, lightly salted nuts, bagels and cream cheese, grapes, and sushi rolls. We are still debating whether to have a cake or not. Remember to have plenty of drinks. We decided to go with water bottles, soda, and juice.
The second most important aspect of a party is the decor. Since this is a Nintendo themed party, we would be crazy to not include Nintendo decorations. The Staff thought it would be a fun idea to hand create most of the decorations. Currently they are working on creating Super Stars, Coins, Mario and Luigi caps, Toads, Mushrooms, and Goombas. There will also be a few store bought Mario and gang character decorations. The day of the party we will also fill the room with Red and White balloons.
What fun would a party be without activities. Since we decided to go with multiple gaming stations set up throughout the office, we will break down the games that will be available.
-Super Nintendo Station
-Nintendo 64 Station
-Wii U Station
The music we decided to go with for the party was classic 8-Bit chiptunes. This is really one area where you are free to cater to your audience as you see appropriate.
